DONALD STUART ROSS

This page has a list of the ships served aboard by one of the Morialta's seamen: Donald Stuart Ross. He was a seaman who began his sailing career as a deckboy aboard the SS Era in 1941 and finished up 41 years later aboard SS Macedon as Quartermaster in 1981 after a long bout of illness. The full list of Donald Ross's ships has been supplied by his son Gordy Ross <gordy8@gmail.com>. Gordy joined his father aboard the Macedon one trip before him approx the 16th of July 1964 and stayed with him almost two years. Gordy says he doesn't know if there have been too many father and son combinations aboard the same ship for as long as they did.

The Observatory at Millers Point (The Rocks) Sydney was an excellent vantage point for the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge on March 19, 1932. A huge crowd surrounded Signal Master's house in the middle. This was where Don lived at the time. His son Gordy said "I was born and lived there a few years before shifting to Adelaide but I loved it there as my Grandfather was Sydney Harbour's Signal Master and lived in both cottages and raised his family from 1926 to 1986. I think it is owned by the National Trust now."
