Bribie Island is situated about an hour's drive north of Brisbane. On it's eastern side is a 40 km unspoilt surf beach, the closest to Brisbane. In the populated area there is a patrolled beach. Due to the partial protection from Moreton Island, Bribie's surf is usually safe. The water is warm and clean. If you wish to take a 4 wheel drive trip northwards, day trips are available, or you can purchase a permit to drive yourself the 30km up towards Caloundra, stopping to view the lagoons, the wildlife and the wartime forts which were used to protect Brisbane from Japanese submarine attacks. There are endless beautiful spots to picnic. This unspoilt national park is a 5 minute drive across the island from the Pumicestone Passage, where Flinders once sailed, thinking it was a river. Even though Bribie Island is such a quiet and restful place to holiday, you don't need to catch a barge to get there. The bridge makes it accessible. You don't have to pack food as the island boasts a Woolworths Complex with Target, Coffee Club and many specialty shops. Several hotels, clubs and restaurants are found around the island which cater for family budgets with very reasonably priced meals (only a short walk to the Bribie Hotel and Monsoons Nightclub). The RSL Club, along the esplanade, has many free shows featuring bands you usually have to pay for ('The Angels', 'Morris , Keyes and Cotton', 'The Screaming Jets', 'Mental as Anything', Normie Rowe... to name a few). They serve great meals too! If you enjoy cycling, you will love the safe cycle tracks over most of the island. Many people spend their holiday fishing, either in the calm waters of the passage or over in the surf. If you like golfing there are two golf courses on Bribie.
’Gums Anchorage’ is on the waterfront of Pumicestone Passage and units have beautiful views of Sylvan Beach - just a few steps away. This is a secure complex with spacious, beautifully landscaped grounds, pool, sauna, golf putting green and tennis court. There are on site managers for extra security. Sylvan Beach was recently voted Queensland's Friendliest Beach.
